Still Sick

I took the day off from school/work to be with Anthony because he is still a little sick. He had been fever-free for two days, and then spiked another temperature this morning. Today is his last day on the antibiotic, so I'm hoping that one more dose will be enough to kick this.

Anthony decided that the most important thing to do today was to play with his train set. So I helped him put together the bridge and he said, "You can go do something else, Mommy. I'll take it from here." Excuuuuu-uuuuse me!

The cat (Alexis) is trying desperately to act bored with the whole set up, but she can't help herself. The train fascinates her. She's sitting on a chair near the tracks, and any time the train comes near her (meaning within two feet), she reaches out a paw and swipes at it.

Mark will take off the day tomorrow so that Anthony can recuperate. The biggest thing I'm noticing about Anthony being sick is that he's still got a good bit of energy, but he has to stop and take breaks. He'll play with the train, but then he lays down on the blanket I put near the train and watch the train go around and around. He takes about a five minute break after about 15 minutes of playing.

I hope he's better soon. It's breaking my heart to listen to him cough to the point that he's almost sick.

Mommy WHO?

The scene:

Parrain's apartment, New Orleans

The players:

Mommy
Anthony
Nana

Act I:

Mommy sitting in rocking chair, cross-stitching; Anthony at coffee table coloring; Nana on sofa visiting.

Anthony: Mommy, I need to snuggle. Can I come snuggle?

Mommy: Sure!
Mommy puts sewing aside.

Nana: Or would you like to snuggle with Nana.
She later claims that she said this so I wouldn't have to put my sewing aside. SUUUUURE, Nana. :)

Anthony, almost in Mommy's arms, veers off in Nana's direction for a snuggle.

Act II:

To follow; Anthony is spending the day with Nana and Grandpa tomorrow. He is still too sick to go to school, and slightly bloody pus is draining from one ear. He will have to return to the pediatrician tomorrow to have that looked at. No fevers all day, just cranky and not eating well. Thankfully, he is well hydrated as he will drink milk and water all day if you offer it to him.

Pneumonia

We took Anthony to his pediatrician this afternoon. He has had a productive cough for four weeks, and the medicine he got last week wasn't working.

The pediatrician had an x-ray done of Anthony's lungs on the off chance that he might have pneumonia. Guess what? Anthony has pneumonia! Thankfully, he was already on Omnicef which protects against the "big nasty" pneumonia Pneumococcal pneumonia. The pedi feels that this is a "simple" case of a Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. He's now on Azithromax (and off the Omnicef) to combat the pneumonia.

Anthony's left ear is still infected, but the right ear has cleared up. Poor kid isn't doing so great health-wise, but his temper...um...personality is still shining through. He's a little more snuggly and clingy, especially when he's tired, but he's otherwise his normal self.

We're going to stay holed up inside for the next few days so that Anthony can fight this infection. Please say a prayer that this is quickly and easily handled!
