On Bed Rest

I saw my OB this morning for a routine check up for the pregnancy. I mentioned that I've been feeling occasional twinges at the top of my stomach, and moderate pain in my back. She said that I might be having some contractions, and that she was going to put me on a contraction monitor for about 15 minutes. It turns out that "occasional" is every 3-5 minutes! That's not so cool.

So I went over to the hospital "treatment center" and received three shots of Brethine. Brethine is commonly used to treat asthma, but since it relaxes all smooth muscle tissue, it is widely used to stop pre-term labor. It pretty much worked for me. I've had about 1 contraction each hour since the third shot, and I got to come home.

I'll be on modified bed rest for the next two weeks. I can get up to go to the bathroom, shower, take Anthony to school, etc. I can go on short car trips as long as the final destination has me sitting or laying down. I can't work, I can't do the grocery shopping, and I can only do "light" house work. No lifting, no carrying, or anything of that nature.

I'm guaranteed to be bored out of my mind, but it's for the health of Baby Boy - so it's totally worth it.

You're getting close to the end! You can do it, Laurie. And it's a good excuse to lay back and relax!

Aww. Positive thing: you caught it early and you're nearly there anyway.

We'll be thinking about you!

I know exactly how you feel Laurie....just went through 10 weeks of bedrest! It goes faster than you think....especially if you have a laptop. Hugs to you! The baby in the end is SOOOOOO incredibly worth it!!!

You aren't really seem like the "lay in bed and do nothing" kinda girl, so good luck with that! (However, being 35 weeks pregnant in the Louisiana summer COULD make you WANT to do that!) I can hardly believe how BIG Anthony is! That swing set looks like SO much fun!

Take care.
