Not Bothered

I was so afraid that keeping a peripheral IV in a four-year-old was going to be near impossible. So far, though, Anthony hasn't let it bother him. It helps that when he has to get his infusions, he still has the mobility to do pretty much whatever he wants to do!

The IV ball works through a pre-set pressure setting. Once it's hooked up to the IV, we just release a clamp holding the medicine in the line, and the pressure is released inside the ball. It takes about 30 minutes for the entire dose to be delivered.

Last night, Anthony developed a fever. It got up to 101.5, which really concerned me. A call to the on-call pediatrician (it turned out that Anthony's pediatrician was the one on-call!), helped alleviate some of my fears. Mark took Anthony in to the pedi's office this morning, and got him looked over. Our pedi feels that Anthony is just still fighting whatever virus he has, and that the IV treatments will help get rid of it. We'll run labs tomorrow to see how his liver and white blood cell counts are, and go from there.
