Surgery
Anthony is scheduled for a small, outpatient procedure next Wednesday (April 26th, which is my birthday!). His surgeon will remove more of the interal stitches from his transplant. These stitches have caused this problem before, but the surgeon is hesitant to actually open Anthony up and remove all of the stitches. I will discuss this with Anthony's transplant team when we go to Omaha this year, and hopefully will get their permission to have the stitches completely removed if this problem ever comes up again.
What the surgeon will do is make a tiny incision on Anthony's stomach (on his transplant scar) and pull out as much of the stitches as he can. He will make sure that the infection is gone (he said it doesn't look infected now) and then put a pressure wrap over the wound. Last year when the surgeon did this, it took less than an hour from start to finish, and Anthony learned how to walk that day! This year, the surgeon said he'll try to give Anthony the ability to be a concert pianist, or maybe to be fluent in Spanish. I'll take either one! :) Anthony did very well with the surgery last year, and we don't expect any problems this time. Still, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers!
We will have labs drawn on Monday so that the anesthesiologist has a set of "new" labs to be sure that everything is going well inside Anthony before the surgery. Cheri, Melissa...we'll see you bright and early Monday morning!
That's all that's going on in our little world today. Love to you all!
