Staph

Yes. You read that right. Staph. As in, Staphylococcus aureus , a nasty bacterial infection.

A few days ago I noticed a bump on Anthony's scar. This bump has been there for a long time (Anthony had surgery to remove a few internal stitches last year, and this was the site where the surgeon went in), but yesterday it started to look like a pimple, with a white head on it. Last night, the area was tender and had a red area surrounding it.

This morning we were off to the pediatrician to have him look at it, and he confirmed my fear that it was Staph. After that, we went to the surgeon's office so he could take care of the infection and see what else needed to be done (more stitches removed, maybe?). The surgeon thinks he got all of the infection, and he couldn't find a stitch in there, so he sent us home with a "Big Gun" antibiotic (Duricef , for those interested) for ten days. If the infection hasn't cleared up by then, we'll be back at the surgeon's, scheduling an out-patient procedure to take a look.

Anthony, as always, was a model patient. He cried, but he didn't fight being held down. Thanks to a numbing cream, a numbing shot and a wonderful surgeon, the procedure was quick and painless (as far as I can tell). More than anything, Anthony HATES being held down. He just looked at me with pitiful eyes and cried, "Mommeeeee" over and over. Heartbreaking, yes...but I'm glad he wasn't fighting the doctor.

He's skipping nap time this afternoon, and it's killing me. He refuses to nap, and that's all I want to do! I guess he had to fight something today, and naptime is as good as anything.

Ah drats!!!
Poor little man. I hate that our kids have to go through so much. I hope this takes care of the problem.

You are one heck of a super mommy - I don't know that I would have thought to take Natalie in to the doctor.
